Iraqi Experience- outside Kuwait

August,2,1990, was the biggest nightmare for the people of kuwait.
The Iraqi people invaded the country Kuwait, the pearl of the gulf.
I am a Kuwaiti citizen that experienced the gulf war in London. During
the gulf war, I was about 4 years old. With a brother that was 2 years,
and another who was 6 months old. I was with my family having a summer
vacation with my family enjoying our best time of the year.
Suddenly, phone calls from my family members started to increase,
about 5-6 phone calls a day. I was totally confused about everything,
I was confused about how my grandmother and my mother were
sitting at night and watching the news. How tears came down my
mother's cheeks. I was really sad when my father explained to me
about what had happened. I would be sitting in a corner in the middle of the night and start to think what is happening? what is going on?
My mother would come up to me and make up stories that thier is
nothing going on, its just that Shiekh Jabber is upset on Iraq.
During the day, I would forget about what happned. At night I
would remember it agian.
During the Gulf War I went to Egypt to visit  my mother's mother
(or my grandmother - in other words). We spent 10 days in Egypt.
I went to Cypres to see my uncles and aunt. We also went there
to change the place we are in.
I came back to our home country Kuwait after the Gulf
War ended in a month or two. When I entered our home,
I was so shocked. Our house was  a complete disaster. They have
ruined our own house. Our nieghbour would see the Iraqi woman
who lived in our house, used to take out every single day a differnt couch
outside our balcony, and drink her tea then return it back again.
When we went to the second floor, we saw mattesses in the
bathroom. Our house was a Casino for the soldiers. At 7 o'clock
at night on Thurseday the generals they would come in our
house, bringing the Disco lights and drinking, they would shoot
at the sky and make alot of annoying noise.
It was the biggest nightmare that all kuwaitis could remember.
No one could sleep out of worries. August, 2, 1990, is a date that
will never be forgotten in the history of Kuwait. It was the time
when all the kuwaitis stood together, held each others hand
to fight against the evil. It is a date that me, my family,
and all of Kuwait would never forget.
